Patrick Wilson (aka Nite Owl II from Watchmen, aka Joe Pitt from Angels in America) is my new actor boyfriend.
There's a special feature on the Watchmen DVD where they're talking about how they made Archie (his ship). And Wilson's talking about how he wanted to know what he should be pushing when, so he didn't look like he was randomly hitting buttons. The director (Zack Snyder) at one point leans over and tells him one lever in particular has to be the thrust, because he has to use it in the Antarctica scene, and Snyder demonstrates by pulling back on the lever.
Wilson's response is, "Oh. That's weird. In the Millennium Falcon, they push it down to go forwards."
Snyder jokes that that's fake, and what they're doing is real, but I don't care, because I <3 Patrick Wilson.
While I'm talking about geeks I love, I really liked this week's BBT. Though I thought it was the finale, since I got confused, and now apparently there are three more episodes left? Damn. I don't really want a Leonard/Penny fight dragged out that long. I like them together. On the other hand, I bought this as a reason for at least a fight, if not an actual breakup, more so than I buy most TV romances that are broken up just to hike ratings. Who hasn't been there? And, true to every real life experience I've had or heard about, the guy said it first. Too often, movies show the girls being the clingy, emotional ones, and I gotta say, real life has proven that a goddamned lie. And I don't just mean me, I mean me and almost every single one of my friends, girls and guys, can back me up on that. I'm not saying it's good either way, I'm just saying, let's not let every TV show ever make guys the emotionally constipated ones. Maybe it was like that in my grandfather's day, but these days, I think way more girls are apt to pull the whole, "Oh man, we were having so much fun, and then they dropped the L word. Totally cramping my style, yo."
Anyway, aside from that, which I hope is resolved nicely, not that I have much hope for that before next season, I was pretty happy. Will Wheaton is always hilarious. Sheldon was really normal in this episode. He gave Penny credit for being good at bowling, once in a completely non-condescending way. He also brought her ice cream, and even if he had an ulterior motive, he's getting quite good at that sort of thing.
Raj: has weepy days, and feels empowered in a cat suit. What a dude.
Howard sounded hilariously sympathetic as he was listing off things Leonard could have done. It was really the tone of his voice that kept getting me. God, there are times I genuinely like him.
I am sort of looking forward for scenes with Penny interacting with the other guys, if she isn't going to be speaking to Leonard for a while. Raj has got to get over Penny at some point. Howard has been laying off at least somewhat, and despite Penny's claim of "thinly veiled contempt" in this episode, I think even non-shippers (and I am one) should have to admit that Sheldon and Penny are pretty cute and friendly these days. They've come through a lot, and I think Sheldon in particular would be sad if they stopped hanging out. Penny would be sad too, but she has a social life, or so we're told. I suppose it would also be nice for her to have some other friends, but that's really a different argument, I can accept that her lack of friends is actually due to lack of money and time for consistent guest stars. Heck, Howard's girlfriend hasn't shown up in weeks. Maybe he and Raj finally came out off screen at some point.
Anyway, I'm hoping this breakup will be a blessing in disguise, and that it's not drawn out too long.
