5. A Wizard of Earthsea, Ursula LeGuin
6. So You Want to be a Wizard, Diane Duane
7. Lioness Rampant, Tamora Pierce
8. The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, Patricia McKillip
9. The Dark is Rising, Susan Cooper
10. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, JKR
11. Howl's Moving Castle, Dianna Wynne Jones
12. American Gods, Neil Gaiman
13. The Last Unicorn, Peter S. Beagle
14. Deerskin, Robin McKinley
15. The Thief, Meghan Whalen Turner
I specifically included only one book per author, despite the fact that I could have included multiple books by every author on this list. I also was pretty specific about which books out of series I chose. 15 was a good number. I'm leaving out a few people, but this was pretty much my gang, growing up. Few books I've read as an adult have stuck with me the way my books did as a kid. The Sparrow was an adult book, and maybe The Red Tent, Beloved, and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao should be on there, but I'm pretty satisfied with the list as is.
