Hawaii Five-O. That was really bad, at parts. And totally decent, in others, if only because I like Grace Park, James Marsters, Daniel Dae Kim, and Scott Caan. And I'm really hoping that the lead is less boring next episode. If he lightened up a bit, he'd be okay. I think.

I feel bad for Grace Park though. I mean, I was joking about watching her just to see her punch guys in the face while wearing a bikini... but that's kind of literally all she did. Both of her big scenes, she was scantily clad and punched people. She didn't even have many lines.

Also, while at this point, I'm used to Asians being generically Asian, and fuck their more technical ancestry according to TV, it bothered me more than usual here. Possibly because I spent the whole intro wondering what the Irish terrorists were doing in Korea, and what in fact Ireland or Korea had to do with anything. Then of course, I wanted to know what Korea or Ireland had to do with Chinese refugees. And I got excited when I realized that DDK and Park, who are both actually Korean American, were related on the show, but then the Chinese crime ring guy bought that Park's character was Chinese. And if they're in Hawaii, and they're supposed represent the island's demographics, isn't Hawaii mostly Japanese and Pacific Islander? So she shouldn't actually be playing a Chinese person, should she? Or even Korean, for that matter? I mean, I'm not Asian at all, nor do I have some Asian Friend (TM) to call on in these matters, so maybe I'm missing something, but was I the only one who was bothered by that?

At any rate, Grace Park is certainly pretty while punching people, as is Marsters, and Caan is adorable. I'll give it another episode or two, see if it finds its sea legs. I'm not married to it or anything, but it wasn't quite terrible enough to make me give up either.

The guy John from my department quoted a giant section of Big Bang Theory today, from the episode where Sheldon is teaching Penny physics, which also happens to be one of my favorite episodes. "It's a warm summer evening in Ancient Greece..." John is the perfect Sheldon, except nicer. And he has a tiny girlfriend who got toasted on one pink lemonade cocktail at dinner the other night. She would make completely nonsensical jokes and crack herself up, and John would just remark in this quiet tone that somehow completely avoided being sarcasm, "Oh, she's on a roll tonight," or, "Look at her go!" in this way that was cracking up Derek and I in turn.

John wants to start a BBT watching routine, and since he said he doesn't actually have a nice TV or seating, he wants to do it at our place. Which I FULLY SUPPORT; there would be nothing cooler/nerdier than watching BBT weekly with a group of physics grad students. But this week I can't, because we have Arecibo observing again. But what a way to miss the BBT premiere, right?

And Community, which starts at the same time, which I am excited about (Abed! Troy! Everyone else!), and then Supernatural, which... we'll see how this goes. I walked away from Smallville though, so don't think I won't do it to you too, Supernatural. None of this crap, all right? There will be LESS ANGST this season, and MORE MONSTER KILLING. Plus Cas. Cuz I'm one of those people. I don't see why we can't have happy brother time, happy monster killing time, AND happy stalker angel time. Plus some good rock music. Isn't that why we're all here? It's really for the rock.
