Why you wanna give me a runaround?
Oct. 2nd, 2008 11:47 pmJoe B: Hey, I've had a career where I've done shit.
Sarah: I don't like to have much substance, just a lot of personality, so I'll just refer to John instead of saying my own thoughts on anything.
Joe B: Do you hear me saying words that makes sense?
Sarah: I'm a maverick! I am spunky, and don't need to speak logic.
She was blindingly cute and peppy, but I really hope people are seeing through to the absolute lack of substance she showed tonight. She had four talking points she'd been prepped on, and she was absolutely full of confidence about them and unafraid to push them, but she had nothing else.
I think both of them were very clear on their issues, which was nice, for once. They still dodged a hell of a lot of questions, Palin much more than Biden, but that was just so they could get back to their pet talking points. I found it really frustrating when the mod would ask a question I really wanted to hear answered, and rather than dance around it, Palin would just go, "Oh yah, that's true, but remember when Obama wanted to raise taxes? That was awful."
Sarah Palin has at last allowed me to get the midwest/Minnesota/North Dakotan/Canadian accent, so that's cool.
And hey! They both like Israel. That's great. I'm glad to hear that.
They also pretended to agree on gay rights, but what Palin doesn't understand is that while she and McCain, quote - and I'm paraphrasing here - "won't be stopping anyone from hospital visits," that's not a right they have now. I'm glad she appears not to support a ban on civil unions, but we need more than to have a blind eye turned. Right now, gay partners cannot get in to see each other in hospital situations in a lot of places. There needs to be protective legislation passed.
I actually have come around, and I think I agree with both of them about gay marriage. But I also think that means the government should stop being able to issue marriage licenses. I think they should issue civil unions to everyone, and only churches should marry people. But I don't think that's going to happen, though I think it's kind of what Obiden are shooting for. I hope, anyway. Otherwise they mean that the government has the right to sanction - as in sanctify, as in God's endorsement on - straight marriage, but not gay marriage. Which makes no sense.
Anyway, I think given the amount of stuff Palin doesn't know, she did a fantastic job of faking it, but I still think she's a moron. And I think Biden knew his shit, and while I admit to not knowing a huge amount about him, I have really, really liked what he's said whenever I have heard him speak.
Are there more Couric interviews? And question, were they all filmed at once, and being time released, or is that moron still going in for interviews? Because if so, please god, someone on McCain's staff should make her stop. Every single one has been a disaster for Palin, and while I find them hilarious, and am really appreciative, you'd think someone would have the sense to stop them.
I am so glad Obama is so far in the lead.
