So I'm all alone in my dorm room now. I'm not quite depressed, because I'm going home tonight, but I can't say I'm happy, either. Jillian left first, and then Darcy, and Stephen this morning, with Katy and Liz and Simone taking off somewhere in between, and I think Cassie's still here, or so Katy said she would be.

Doty's so quiet though. I'm not used to there not being people in the halls, talking. My next door neighbor with her loud music is finally gone, but it just feels so quiet. I realized over winter break that I don't like quiet any more. I used to. I loved moving out to the sticks. It's quiet, except when the tree frogs are deafening. I used to hate staying nights in the city. I couldn't sleep, I was too restless with all the people you could hear at all hours of the night, all the city noise.

And St. Paul isn't really that loud, but on a college campus, it's hard to find dead silence. Quiet, yes, but even at 3:30 am, it's not weird to find someone writing a paper in the lounge or just coming in to bed. My parents go to sleep at 9 pm. The house would go silent if not for the dogs, and they're not the same as people, as much as I love them. Better than nothing, definitely, but I like the feeling of my roommate just breathing on the other side of the room, of people in the halls, people outside my window. It feels oddly isolated for me now, to have silence so often. Even during the day, I'm lucky to hear the sound of a lawn mower at home.

I'm not going to deal well with having my own place. I'm definitely going to need a roommate at all times.

Also, it's gonna be weird to not have friends just upstairs, or across the lawn. That's really cool. Really, I liked my room this year. And I miss my MD friends desperately, but they're the only reason I want to come home. Okay, no. I really do love Maryland. I love MD summers, and I've gone on about them enough recently, but I really do.

I need to find a way to get the best of both worlds. I think I might have a perfect world in that case.

Also, following in [livejournal.com profile] skgirl212's footsteps (and stealing some of hers, since they pertain to me as well), I present you with a list of Things I Learned In College (Or At Least Since Graduating High School):
1. What a female condom is.
2. Not everyone in the world is Catholic (or even Christian!).
3. Some guys make awesome friends.
3b. Some guys do not make awesome friends. Harry ) was right.
4. The myth about all guys talk about is sex is wrong. It's all computer/video games. (put into words by my brother, but oh so true)
5. Going to a liberal school is awesome, because we do such awesome things as have "decorative hookahs."
5b. There is no such thing as a purely decorative hookah.
6. Everyone loves classic rock.
7. Not everyone loves country.
7b. But some people do.
8. Maryland is a southern state, for the most part.
9. The East Coast really is distinctive from the Midwest.
10. I don't act like as East Coaster (and neither do most of my MD friends).
11. Facebook is to college students what LJ is to me (i.e., crack).
12. How the MSP bus system works.
13. Fanfic is right about one thing - people really do have a lot of sex in showers.
13b. Always check for condoms in the showers, especially on Saturday and Sunday morning.
14. Catholic school leaves you woefully unprepared for sex.
15. Free time is just a test to see how much you'll procrastinate.
