Usually I watch Independence Day today, because I love it. I watched it a few weeks ago at Erika's, though (the Director's Cut, which I hadn't seen before, and I loved it. Just a lot of fun little extra scenes, extra lines. I've seen that movie enough times to have it memorized, and I was ridiculously pleased to see things that really did make it better. I wasn't thrown at all, just pleased), and I was struck by the 9/11 tones. I remember people saying, kind of in an embarrassed way, that 9/11 reminded a lot of people of the movie Independence Day, and I remember agreeing. Which is silly, but your mind makes the connections it will, and you can't help that. It does have its similarities.

And I know I've seen the movie since 9/11, but it never really hit me. But sitting in Erika's apartment, I really all of a sudden had flashbacks to all the horrible fear of directly post-9/11, and it was very uncomfortable. I don't know that the movie can be the simple pleasure it used to be for me. Which is awkward. I hate having my childhood messed with, and I can't complain, because I lost nothing on 9/11, except the carelessness that every American lost.

This isn't what I actually wanted to post about. I wanted to do a silly little post to simply wish everyone a Happy Fourth (I'm not a huge patriot myself, at least as far as my redneck, Confederate flag-wearing neighbors are concerned), and enjoy the fireworks (the best part of the day), and the parades and pool parties and cookouts (I hope you all get one, and if you don't, and you read this in time, call me and come to my house!).

Also, about four days before I leave to go back to Minnesota, I get to see THE COUNTING CROWS AND GOO GOO DOLLS!!! Megan and I have our tickets, and hopefully, it will be excellent. We took lawn seats to save on money, and because granted, I'm used to Merriweather or Pier 6, but I've always loved my lawn seats. I like just sprawling with all the kids and families and soaking it up. I'm not a rocker at concerts. Plus, this gives me an awesome date with Megan, whom I have not seen nearly as much as I should have this summer.

Ok, pool time! Happy Fourth again, everyone!
