First day of real work.
Whoa. I am a real grown up.
It wasn't so bad. I went in, I read a lot of documentation and tutorials, did some background reading as well. Played around with LaTeX, which went way better than I thought. I feel like I'm moving slowly, since everyone else was already getting work done today, and I was just doing tutorials, but at the same time, a few of them have seen the programs already, and the teacher was helping the other kids, and they could all help each other. I was totally on my own, and my adviser isn't even all that familiar with some of the stuff I'm doing.
Tomorrow is a lot more of the same. I think at some point I'm going to start having real questions, and John's going to be pretty busy with the students for a while yet. I think that means I'll do a lot of background reading until we can touch base for more than thirty seconds before one of them is calling for him.
Jacob and I had lunch together. He gave me pizza, which was awesome, since I didn't get to the store until this afternoon. I have enough food to last a long time, with the exception of fresh veggies. I wish I could hit a grocery store on the way home, and Whole Foods is pretty on the way, but it's also hella pricey. But then again, for just a few things, a backpack and a bike could get me to Kowalski's without too much trouble.
I got my new staff ID, I got my new keys, I shipped back the modem I had misordered, I deposited graduation gift checks, and I went grocery shopping. All after work. And I made myself dinner! Next on the To Do list are thank you notes for graduation, but I even bought cards and stamps, so I am on top of things!
Ryan was here when I came home today, and Tom picked me up at the store, so including my roommate, we all watched Star Trek for a while and hung out. Coz came over as well. I'm supposed to meet Stephen tomorrow after work, so I even feel happy socially. I hope these sorts of things continue.
Saturday, my mattress and bedframe get delivered, and then I go out to buy storage baskets and probably risers for the bed so that the baskets fit underneath it. And then I can do the last round of unpacking.
