I just made a Trashy playlist, because I've been craving trashy pop lately. Seriously, I've listened to Suerte and Love Story and Waking Up in Vegas like twenty times over the past three days.

American Beauty = my favorite movie of all time.

This has been true for a long time now. I don't even remember when I first saw it, though I think it had to have been on TV. I wasn't cool enough to watch dramas in 1999. I immediately bought it though, and I've watched it a billion times since. I have yet to find a person in real life who loves that movie as much as I do.

But there are the things I usually rant about - mostly the writing and the acting, which are stellar in every respect, I think. And then there's the stuff I never talk about, but which always catche my eye, I just don't think to brag about it.

But seriously, the cinematography in that movie is also freaking amazing. There are so many moments I wish I could screencap and use as icons, except that they're sort of meaningless without the rest of the movie. But there's the shot of Mr. Fits walking away in the rain, framed by Lester and the car. There's the shot from Caroline's perspective of the house's red door, also in the rain. There's the picture Ricky takes of Jane through the window and in the mirror. And so many more. The movie was incredibly carefully filmed, which, on top of everything else, is just amazing.

This is one of those movies where I'm like, "Damn straight it won Best Picture, Cinematography (I actually didn't know that was one of them until just now. Thank you, Academy!), Director, Writing, and Actor. It fucking deserved all of those." Not, you know, that I have any idea of what it was up against. But it is my favorite movie ever, so I'm glad to know that other people appreciated it as well.
