Things that have made me smile:

1) Shatner and Nimoy being adorable. I love that they were and are good friends. Obnoxious as Shatner is, these things make me love him anyway. And Nimoy is just obviously awesome.

2) An octopus steals a camera, and then trades the camera for a spear! Aside from it being some gorgeous footage, I am filing this away with other proof that octopi are a force to be reckoned with.

3) I don't go for RPF very often, but I think fandom's crush on Rahm Emanuel is adorable. He's like a real life Josh Lyman, less because of the Jew thing, and more because he clearly doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, but he appears to get shit done all the same. I enjoy seeing icons of him pop up every now and then. Weirdly, I've seen more of him than Obama, which is why I label this a fannish crush as opposed to the love everyone has for the pres.

4) I totally made IDL my bitch today, and got it to make all kinds of awesome plots. And not just IDL, but IRAF as well. I posted as such on facebook, but even that was reined in a bit from what I originally planned on writing, because my old high school history teacher keeps commenting on things, and I would feel bad saying something like that where she could see it. Which is part of what annoys me about facebook these days, but this is a happy post. So anyway, I then amused myself by thinking how very much Macalester has affected my mode of thinking, because my precise problem with saying that I had made IDL my bitch was that it would be propagating rape culture, and being gangsta/thug is not something we should insist on being cool. But I think it's totally cool. I was dancing in my chair when I figured out those plots, going, "What? What? You can't handle me, motherfucker! You got nothing on me!"

5) I've been watching a ton of Happy Days online lately, and in the epic 3 part episode where Fonzie gets a serious girlfriend, proposes to her, and then lets her go again, he ends the arc by riding off into the sunset with Richie on the back of his motorcycle. I'm not going to comment, I'm just going to giggle.

6) Aside from way too many childhood memories, part of the reason I love the Fonze might be that Henry Winkler can't keep a straight face while playing him. So the character's a lot cuter than his lines often imply. I love that he started out as such a tough guy, but by the second season, he's a total softie, at least as far as the Cunninghams are concerned.

7) New Supernatural tonight!

8) I keep finding new awesome covers of this song.

9) Oh what the hell. This isn't new today, but it popped up when I was looking for links for #8: Rye Whiskey and Heart in a Cage (music starts around 1:20). They're touring again (still?) and they'll be in Virginia in September, and I am so going again. Punch Brothers are amazing. Their new album is also coming out in June, but I've been trying for two weeks to pre-order it, and the website is fucked up somehow. I don't care. I'll get it eventually.

10) The weather has been awesome lately, and I've been working late, so I've been taking coffee breaks in the afternoon where I get raspberry cream sodas and a pastry from Dunn Brothers and sit outside while I eat it.
