Mmmh. Yay, cooler weather. It's finally stopped being in the eighties every day, which means fall has arrived, which means I finally get to wear my awesome new jacket. I finally figured out who I remind me of! Martha Jones has a jacket the same color and material! Mine has more zippers and buttons, but it's definitely what I keep thinking of. I feel very cool when I wear it. Yay for fall.

I celebrated by making beef bourguignon the other night. And I learned something new. I always assumed Burgundy was a type of wine like a Merlot or a Pinot Noir is a type of wine. Turns out it's just descriptive of a region of France, which explains why I couldn't find a bottle that said Burgundy anywhere in the wine store when I went looking. Luckily, I had barely gotten the words, "So, I'm making beef bourguignon..." out of my mouth before the wine guy dashed off to find me a Pinot Noir for $8, even adding, "And it's a Burgundy, which is generally what's used for that dish!" I love that wine shop. Not as much as The Wine Thief in St. Paul, but it's pretty cool nonetheless. And the beef turned out amazing. It's really not even that hard to make, it's just time consuming.

I went apple picking with Karen and Ben this morning, so I have a bag of apples as well. Trying to decide. I think I want to make a pie, maybe tomorrow during the day, and try my hand at making my own applesauce sometime this week. I haven't made pork in a while, and that goes pretty well with apples, so maybe I'll try that later in the week. I keep seeing recipes for awesome tarts though, so I'm thinking I might forgo pie for some sort of tart. We'll see. I also bought a gallon of fresh cider, which is going to go very fast. I drank two tall glasses just this afternoon.

My roommates are off seeing The Social Network, which I saw last night with Karen. I enjoyed it. I also didn't like it for the same reasons I didn't intend to see it to begin with (a movie about petty fighting between super rich people who used to be friends over a lot of money and hurt feelings? Yeah, that sounds pleasant). But in the end, some pretty sweet casting choices and Aaron Sorkin writing magic made it interesting and enjoyable anyway. And it spawned some interesting discussion afterward, which I usually take as the mark of a good movie. It was an excellent movie, by that standard, actually. Kind of made me even less pleased with Facebook as a whole. Not that I've been a fan of the company since about 2006, but now even that memory is somewhat tainted. As Karen and I agreed, however, it's one of those things where even if you don't like the company or how they handle things, the very fact that everyone else is there makes it more trouble than it's worth to not use it. That's not true, strictly speaking, of course. Plenty of people don't have fb at all. But if you want that sort of social experience at all, you're sort of stuck with fb. Anyway. Interesting movie.
